Church Powerpoints

May 29, 2011 1 comment

On Friday night Bamberg had The Long Night of the Churches where all the churches in Bamberg had something going on. There were dinners from the time of Luther, drama presentations, and quite a variety of concerts. We decided to go back to one of the churches we visited this morning for service, and it was awesome. My German is really not very good, but i understand a lot more of what i read than what i hear and this preacher used a powerpoint! We all were given these fill in the blank sheets for notes, and i was able to follow along really well cause i could read his main points and have a frame of reference to understand more of what he was saying in between. Plus now i have a sheet of notes that i can translate any word i don’t know and actually improve my vocabulary.

Grandmothers

The postman woke me up this morning with this jewel in his hands. All it took was a signature and he handed over a huge cache of American food, books, movies, and playing cards plus photos of some of my favorite people in the world. Grandmothers are such a blessing!

Roses

This past week something magical happened to Bamberg. Apparently those vines covering all of the buildings in the old city are actually roses! The whole city has magically come into bloom and it’s unbelievably gorgeous.

German AC

I’m from the South. It gets hot. Really excruciatingly wonderfully hot. Unfortunately with the heat, people go a little crazy with their AC. In your home of course you can maintain sane temperatures, but if you walk into any public building- classroom, theater, etc. you’d better bring a coat. In Germany people don’t have AC. AC means opening a window and letting that summer breeze blow, and i think that’s absolutely perfect.
